All the receipts will be kept and at any point should you wish to see a breakdown of the finances they shall be provided.

The Mini Bus

The minibus will have seats for 10 people which includes the driver so we have 9 riders. The other seats will be removed to make space for the bikes in the rear of the minibus.

The mini bus will be a few years old as the new ones do not have removable seats, however it is fully serviced and recovery is included within the price.

The mini bus has an insurance excess of £1500. In the unlikely event of an accident should this excess need to be covered it will be split equally between everyone in the Mini Bus – £150 per person

Fuel Costs

Fuel prices have been estimated at £1.60 per litre with an estimated usage of 17 Gallons for the trip. The Mini Bus has a 150 mile allowance for every day of hire (3). The estimated mileage of the trip is 605 miles which gives us an over allowance of 155 miles which will be charged at 15p per mile. The mini bus has an estimated 35 miles per gallon usage.

If our calculations are not accurate we may need to add more money into the pot for fuel and the extra allowance charge.

  • Friday Morning – Collect Minibus at 9am, load bikes and bags at Mansfield at 11am.
  • Friday Afternoon – Drive to Newcastleton to the B&B
  • Saturday – Drive to start of Ride near Newcastle Upon Tyne
  • Saturday – Ride the Reivers Route to Newcastleton, back to the B&B
  • Sunday – Complete the Reivers Route to Maryport
  • Sunday Evening – Return to Rugeley
  • Monday Morning – Return Minibus to Wolverhampton

A more detailed agenda will be given next year about a month before the ride

We decided to stay in the same accommodation in Newcastleton for the 2 nights. Although the ride starts in Newcastle Upon Tyne the accommodation here was to expensive. Also by being in the same accommodation it means we can leave our any day 2 kit and provisions there which will save us hauling it around or sending a drop box ahead of time.

Next door to the accommodation is a pub, so we won’t have far to waddle back on Friday & Saturday night.

We will leave the B&B no later than 6am on Saturday morning to arrive in Newcastle to start riding no later than 8am. This means we will leave before the breakfast is ready. We will be talking to the owners to see if we can have our Saturday morning breakfast as our evening meal on the Friday.

Obviously on the Sunday we will start riding from the B&B so we will be there for breakfast.

The Reivers Route
More Details

The route distance is 157 miles and it is off road as much as possible. So there are plenty of road sections in between the gravel parts. I have a map that I will make into a pdf so you can study the route.

I will create two gpx files that will be available nearer the time for each days ride.

Riding time is estimated to be no more than 10 hours including stops so we should be back in Newcastleton no later than 6pm on day 1. Day 2 we should be on our way back starting at 6pm and back in Rugeley by 10pm depending on how many stops we have.

I would suggest booking out a long weekend, Friday to Monday. It would be nice to get up to the accommodation early on Friday, maybe even take a very leisurely ride to Kielder maybe.

After the Trans Cambrian Way this year, some had got work on the Monday but wished they had not, so maybe take this into consideration.
