This year, Brereton Wheelers managed to run two well attended open Reliabilty Rides. Ride for Brian & The Presidents Ride.
Both rides offered routes of varying distances with most riders taking on the more challenging 100 kilometre distances.
Our first ride of the year, Ride for Brian, was run on the same day as the Staffordshire Ironman so the main route had to fit in with various road closures. This years route headed out towards Tutbury before looping back through Doveridge and Sudbury. Although hilly in places, the biggest challenge of the day for all riders was to stay hydrated. Todays ride was the hottest day of the year so far. All riders were rewarded with Jacket Potatoes and plenty of refreshments for their efforts. A Fantastic day of riding to help us remember Club Member and good friend Brian Hession.
Our second ride of the year, The Presidents Ride headed out towards the historic town of Market Bosworth. A flat and fast route with fantastic road surfaces and better still, very few cars which winds its way through villages with wonderful names like Barton in the Beans & Little Twycross. Unlike our first open Reliability ride, the weather was not on our side. Although a very wet day, it did not dampen the spirit or the numbers of riders taking part. The ride was led out by our Club President, Edward ‘Taff” Yardley, who managed to hold off the Peleton until the Ash Tree Pub. All riders were greeted by a buffet of sandwiches and chips on their return to The Mansfield Club.
All profits from this years rides will be donated to Midland Air Ambulance. This years rides have raised a very respectable £250 and Brereton Wheelers would like to thank everybody who took part.
We are aiming at holding more open reliability rides in 2022 including an early season leg loosener and a specific Gravel / MTB reliability ride. More information on these rides will appear on our facebook page and website in early 2022.
