Cyclocross: Mud, Speed, and Simple Setup
Cyclocross is short, intense, and brilliantly messy. You’ll feel clumsy at first—everyone does. Focus on smooth cornering, dismounts, and remounts rather than “winning training.”
Setup tips
- Tyres: CX tyres are narrower than gravel—tune pressure for grip.
- Brakes: disc makes life easier in wet conditions.
- Gearing: simpler is often better (1x is popular).
Maintenance advice
- Rinse mud off quickly to protect bearings and drivetrain.
- Dry and relube the chain after every muddy session.
- Check brake pads frequently—grit wears them fast.
